A Beauty Counter Painting (underpainting)

I made a few small paintings for an upcoming fundraiser show called "300 Plates" at Art Access Gallery in Salt Lake City. This is the underpainting stage for a small beauty counter piece. I usually paint the underpainting with a mixture of alizirin crimson, phthalo blue and linseed oil. I learned to start paintings this way from a really good painter named Doug Braithwaite.

It's *great* to see how you do this. Braithwaite's work is incredible, and I thought I saw a trace of his influence in your (very unique and original) work--mainly the solidity and confidence in your brushwork. Thanks so much for sharing a glimpse of your process, Lane.
